Dabbe Falls

A 110 m forest waterfall near Hosagadde, reached by a steep descent through the Western Ghats

CategoryWaterfall

DistanceAbout 35 km from Sagara, on the Sagara–Bhatkal road
Best timeAugust–September, monsoon

Dabbe Falls sits well off the main tourist trail, in dense Western Ghats forest about 35 km from Sagara on the road toward Bhatkal. Getting there is most of the experience: the trail descends steeply, farmland giving way to thick jungle, with sections steep enough that trekkers hold onto exposed tree roots to descend safely.

It's a rewarding but genuinely demanding trek rather than a casual viewpoint stop — a local guide from Muppane nature camp is the sensible way to attempt it, particularly in the monsoon months when the falls are fullest but the trail is also at its slipperiest.

Highlights

  • About 110 m (350 ft) high, near Hosagadde on the Sagara–Bhatkal road
  • A steep forest trek down — some stretches require holding onto tree roots
  • Muppane nature camp, about 10 km away, is the usual base for hiring a guide

Getting there

Buses on the Thirthahalli to Sagara route reach Sagara; Dabbe Falls needs a further ~35 km by private vehicle plus a guided forest trek beyond that.
