Kuppalli Kavimane
The ancestral home of poet Kuvempu, preserved as a memorial museum in his native village
Kuppalli is the native village of Kuvempu (K.V. Puttappa), one of Kannada literature's most celebrated poets and a Jnanpith Award winner, best known for the epic Sri Ramayana Darshanam. His family home — a tiled Malnad-style house typical of the region — is preserved as a memorial museum holding his manuscripts, photographs and personal effects.
The surrounding hills and forest are often cited as the landscape behind his writing, and a short trip up to Kavishaila, a rock memorial on a nearby hilltop, pairs naturally with a visit to the house itself. The museum is closed on Mondays.
Highlights
- The traditional Malnad-style tiled house where Rashtrakavi Kuvempu (1904–1994) was born and raised
- Run today as a museum by the Rashtrakavi Kuvempu Pratisthana, holding his manuscripts, photographs and personal belongings
- Kavishaila, a hilltop memorial to Kuvempu with panoramic Western Ghats views, sits about 2 km away
