Savehaklu Dam
A geometric reservoir on the Chakra River, known for its square-edged embankments and misty reflections

DistanceAbout 95 km from Shivamogga city, near Hosanagara
Best timeJune–January, through monsoon and just after
Savehaklu Dam crosses the Chakra River in Hosanagara taluk, and its most-photographed feature is the dam wall itself — built with flat, geometric embankments instead of a curved profile, which gives the reservoir an unusual look against the forest around it.
There's little built-up tourist infrastructure here, so it suits a quiet stop on a longer Hosanagara loop rather than a destination on its own; the backwaters turn properly misty during and just after the monsoon.
Highlights
- Built across the Chakra River in 1980, with flat, squared-off embankments rather than the usual curved dam wall
- Calm backwaters that mirror the surrounding Western Ghats forest, especially in early morning light
- Still lightly visited compared to Karnataka's better-known dams
Getting there
There isn't a Malnad Yatra bus route into Hosanagara taluk yet, so this one needs a private vehicle or taxi.
